The Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees played one of the most interesting from the beginning of the regular season in the MLB. The home side recorded a victory with the score of 13-10 at Coors Field in Denver.
The Rockies led by 6-0 after the 5th inning and by 12-3 after the 7th. The Yankees started to play better late in the game (8th inning), when they managed to score 7 points, but it was too late for them to turn things around. New Yorkers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (L 6-3) stayed on the field for 4+ innings and he dropped 6 points from 8 hits and 2 bases. His opponent – Jorge de la Rosa (W 3-4) secured the victory for the Colorado Rockies with his three hits.
Colorado opened the scoring with a double hit by Mark Reynolds in the second inning, and in the fourth inning Trevor Story surmounted the fence, achieving his 17th home run in his rookie season. In the same attack Ryan Raburn increased the Rockies’ lead to 4: 0. DJ LeMahieu (RBI-singles) and Nolan Arenado (RBI-double) made Eovaldi go under the shower.
Didi Gregorius recorded a triple home run after Eovaldi left the pitch and brought the first points for the visiting team. But, in the end of the 6th and the 7th innings, the Colorado Rockies scored another 6 points and increased their lead to 12-3.
However, the visitors showed their best in the 8th inning of the game. The Yankees sent 12 batters to home and hit eight hits, including two by Rob Refsnyder. He was close to equalize the score, but Jason Motte forced Didi Gregorius to strike out.
“It was a crazy inning! They began to hit a lot and were difficult to be stopped,” the Colorado Rockies’ manager Walt Weiss said.
“This is a crazy place to play! When you lead by 10 points you must feel relaxed, but note here,” the manager of New York Yankees – Joe Girardi said in an interview after the game.
Carlos Gonzalez put an end to the intrigue with his solo home run in the end of the 8th inning. So, the Colorado Rockies recorded a difficult 13-10 victory against the New York Yankees.
